Fox FIT damper upgrades 2017 - UPDATED

Posted on January 22 2017

Back in 2016, we discussed the Fit4 damper upgrade with a lot of customers who were experiencing performance issues with the CTD Evolution Series forks. The CTD Evolution series forks were specced during 2013-2015 on several brand's bikes, and served a purpose of an entry point into the Fox brand.

But, as with most things - It's all relative. The performance of the CTD evolution damper is pretty average at the best of times. It is also effectively 'non-serviceable' which means we can't really do a lot with it, other than topping up the fluids to regain some function when they come in for service.

A lot of people mention that they have dropped the pressure on their Evolution series fork in order to regain sensitivity, but on the flip side to that - they're blowing through the travel too easily on the larger hits. This is basically due to a very heavy amount of fiction/stiction in the damper's seal head, that stops the fork easily initiating into the travel, which is why the user may feel the need to drop the pressure. And once the fork initiates into the travel, there is very little to no 'midstroke' and 'end-stroke' support. This is where the basic damper shows it's true colours over time, and when due for service, an upgrade is usually discussed, and suggested.

Now the good news is that the 32 or 34mm CTD Evolution Series fork chassis is actually fine, it just has a flawed damper unit. So there are replacement damper options that will screw into the fork, replacing the entire right side internals with a complete new damper unit. The best part, is the MASSIVE gain in performance - so consider it $$ well spent.

For those with the new 2017 GRIP damper looking to upgrade they're ride with more external tune-ability and adjustability, the Fit4 options as listed below are an awesome and cost effective way to get more out of your forks.
